Plum Cake Recipe

Here is a plum cake recipe that is very easy and quick to make.

Especially in the early fall when prune plums are at their best, a fresh plum cake can often be found on my kitchen counter, ready to be enjoyed with a cup of tea or waiting to be served as dessert.

The plum cake is very good on its own, but I like to serve it with a little whipped cream on top.

You will need a 9x12 inch cake pan to bake this great and easy recipe for plum cake.


  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 25 prune plums, cut in half lengthwise, pit removed


  • Preheat oven to 400F.
  • Grease and flour 9x12 cake pan.
  • Sift dry ingredients into a medium bowl.
  • In a larger bowl, beat egg, milk and oil together.
  • Add sifted dry ingredients to liquids.
  • Beat well.
  • Pour batter into greased and floured cake pan.
  • Arrange fresh plums on top of batter.

  • Topping:

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine

  • Make a crumble from ingredients and sprinkle over top of plums.

  • Bake at 400 about 55-65 minutes.
